Australopithecus afarensis is an extinct species of Australopithecus of the Hominidae family that lived about 3.76 - 2.92 million years ago in East Africa in the territory of Hadar (Äthiopien) and Laetoli (Tansania). There is little doubt that before Australopithecus afarensis died out 2.5-3.5 million years ago, other Australopithecinen and a genus Homo directly or indirectly had descended from them. The height is 1-1.5 m, the weight is about 30-60 kg.
